Steven Marquis Shelley, age 44 of Chipley, FL passed from this life on July 23, 2024. He was born on December 3, 1979 in Panama City, FL to Kenneth Shelley and Rebecca (Register) Shelley.
Jerry O’Neil Yongue, age 82, of Chipley, FL passed from this life on July 24, 2024 at his home with his loving family. He was born on December 8, 1941 in Washington County, FL to Hubert L. Yongue and Arvie (Sapp) Yongue.
Connie Kathryn Thomas, age 66, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Connie was born on September 23, 1957, in Graceville, FL, to the late Milton Sasser and Virginia Adams Sasser.
Founded in 1896, the First Presbyterian Church of Chipley saw its congregation gather in a new building on 4th Street and Watts Avenue by 1904. This church housed a significant bell, the fourth-largest bell produced by the C.S. Bell Company of Ohio, around 1898, costing approximately $165 (equivalent to nearly $5,000 today).
At Thursday Night Lights on July 18th, Chipley Garden Club’s Yard of the Month Chair Dorothy Odom presented the July 2024 Yard of the Month certificate to Bessie & Marcus Russ at 745 Orange Street. The Russes stay busy gardening in their yard and helping to bring beauty to our community. Bessie remarked, “I do the gardening, Marcus does the mowing!”
James Burton Kent, 75, of Cottondale, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, July 21, 2024, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Recently Cindy Simonson, President of the Wausau Garden Club, delivered a new supply of The Possum Cookbook: American’s Amazing Marsupials and Dozens of Ways to Cook Them by E. W. Carswell to the Washington County Historical Society. The books arrived just in time for Wausau’s 55th Annual Fun Day & Possum Festival which will be held in Wausau on August 2nd and 3rd.

Judy F. Sullivan, age 77, of Vernon, FL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 22, 1946, in Jackson County, FL, to the late Merrit Franklin Bruner and Alice (Gary) Bruner.
