The Scarecrows
t’s almost that time of year! It’s another hot Summer, but folks are thinking about Fall and some leaves are beginning to turn. All that means that the scarecrows will soon start showing up in downtown Chipley in anticipation of “Archeologists at the Museum History Fest & Scarecrow Building Contest.” Both events are scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd at the Washington County Historical Society in downtown Chipley. The Washington County Historical Society was open and welcomed visitors during Sip-and-Shop last night. Vintage clothing, hats and accessories were gathered, and visitors enjoyed dressing up and having a fun photo op.
Joe Earl Collins II, age 55, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in Tampa, Florida. He was born December 3, 1967 in Marianna, Florida to Joe Earl and Eileen (Pipkin) Collins.

Mary J. Searcy, age 85, of Chipley, FL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 10, 2023. She was born on June 11, 1938 in Chipley, FL to the late Clayton Sowell and Roxie (Parker) Sowell.
Kathleen Rogers was greeted by her nieces and nephews, for a dinner celebrating her 90th birthday!! We all spent time catching up and fellowshipping together. Turning 90 on July 5, 2023, she is remarkable in her continued abilities to be active and enjoy life.
Ms. Brandy Vaughn, Director of Chartwells, presented a $10,000 check to Superintendent Taylor, a $5,000 scholarship to students, and $5,000 to the Washington County Food Program.
Clarence Eugene “Gene” Halley Jr., age 77, of Chipley, FL passed from this life on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023 at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 20, 1946 in Alliance, FL to the late Clarence Eugene Halley Sr. and Ruby Bozeman Jackson.
