The Vernon Jackets’ Homecoming 2024 is officially in the books! It was a fantastic week for all the kids, filled with spirited dress-up days at school. Breakfast for the players was generously sponsored by Gigi’s Country Store. The players pre-game meal was sponsored by Sunny Hills Civic Association and Holmes Creek Pizza. Alice Lou Merchant, age 86, of Cottondale, FL passed from this life on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 31, 1938 in Cottondale, FL on the family homestead to the late Melton C. Braxton and Clara (Toole) Braxton.

Terry Wayne Wilkes, 62, of Cottondale Fl, went home to be with his Lord & Savior on October 15, 2024. He was born on December 8th, 1961 to Elson and Hazel (Stewart) Wilkes in Troy, AL. He graduated from Cottondale High School in 1981 then went on to study Corrections.
Alice Louise Burkett, 74 years old, passed from this world on October 16, 2024 at her home in Greenwood, Florida.
On Monday October 14th, 2024, Chipley High School was the Host Site for Rural District 2 – 2024 Girls Volleyball District Tournaments, Vernon Lady Yellowjackets played Holmes County Lady Blue Devils, best out of 5 match- 1- 3, Lady Devils win.

Dorothy ‘Dot’ Porter Brooks, 86 of Chipley, Florida went home to rest in the Lord in the early morning of October 11, 2024. Dot was born on August 2, 1938, at home on Orange Hill to Felton and Myrtle Porter.
On Monday October 7th, 2024, the Chipley Lady tigers hosted the Cottondale Lady Hornets.
