Garden Club Celebrates October

Wildflower Chair Glenda Wilson presented the wildflower Partridge Pea aka Chamaecrista fasciculata.   The plant is native pollinator, provides food for birds, insects and wildlife, and also has several Native American medical uses, but it can become invasive.  The Sundial Garden is looking very nice thanks to Cheryl McCall and Juliet Sauls’ hard work.  The zinnias are lovely! The Florida 4-H State Grilling Contest

Josh Wells is Florida 4-H Grill Master

Josh Wells was awarded 1st place beef at the Florida 4-H State Tailgate Grilling Contest. Josh prepared a prime ribeye steak with salt, garlic, and pepper. He chose this cut of beef because it is tender and has a great beefy and buttery flavor, along with good marbling. He chose to season it simply to compliment these attributes and let the meat shine. Washington County Shelter Operations Information

Washington County will open a shelter of last resort for residents at noon on Thursday, 9/26/24.  It will close at noon on Friday, 9/27/24.  The shelter is located at 1535 Brickyard Road in Chipley.  Those sheltering at this location should bring bedding, snacks, prescription medication, and a valid driver’s license.  Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Due to continued concerns regarding Hurricane Helene, the Washington County School District will be closed on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority as we closely monitor the storm’s impact.
