Vernon Middle School and Vernon High School both held special programs on November 11, 2025, to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Each ceremony was filled with pride, gratitude, and deep respect for our nation’s veterans.
At Vernon Middle School, the ceremony began with the presentation of colors, followed by a moving performance of the National Anthem. Students listened attentively as guest speaker Chief Officer (Ret.) James Wesley Hill delivered an inspiring message about honor, courage, and commitment.
Later that day, Vernon High School continued the tradition with its own Veterans Day program. The event began with the presentation of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a powerful performance by The Pride of Vernon band. Next, members of the JROTC delivered speeches recognizing each branch of the United States military. As they spoke, Vernon Elementary students appeared dressed to represent each branch, adding a special touch to the ceremony.
Afterward, guest speaker S. Michael Starkman, a decorated veteran and member of the American Legion, addressed the students with some of his experiences and words of honor and appreciation. The ceremony concluded as each veteran in attendance was introduced by name and recognized for their service.
Both programs reflected Vernon’s strong sense of community and deep gratitude for those who have served our country.
Thank you to all the Vernon Schools staff and students for organizing such meaningful tributes — and most importantly, thank you to every veteran for your courage, dedication, and sacrifice.
