Chipley Garden Club has had a “sweet” February. At the monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 4, members and guests learned all about lavender from Southern Grace Lavender Farm. The program covered not only growing lavender, but all the wonderful products that can be made from the sweet smelling flowers and leaves – soaps, sachets, candles, and more.
Barbara James, a long-time honorary member who passed away recently was remembered on Saturday, February 7. Club members joined the staff of Spanish Trail Playhouse and planted a Red Maple on the grounds of Spanish Trail Playhouse. Barbara actively supported garden club activities and the playhouse for many years.
Other activities during February included freshening up the Downtown Pots so they will be ready for Spring and making Dried Floral Designs with students at Kate Smith Elementary School for the Washington County 4-H Youth Fair. Other 4-H youth activities include assisting students with Live Floral Designs and judging the Horticultural entries for the Fair. To wind up the month, club members will join a home school to learn about snakes.
Butterfly Chair Glenda Wilson was interviewed a couple of weeks ago by Travel + Leisure Magazine concerning our Butterfly Garden at Falling Waters State Park.
