The McNeill family is deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the community during the grand re-opening of Chipley Hardware. The event, held to mark the store’s revitalization under new leadership, was a testament to the town’s enduring spirit and commitment to local businesses.
Founded in 1984 by Bubba McNeill, the store has long been a cornerstone of Chipley. Bubba, raised by his parents Maybell and James McNeill, not only operated the store but also owned the trailer park on McNeill Lane, remaining deeply invested in the community throughout his life. After his passing in 2022, uncertainty surrounded the store’s future. However, Bubba’s son, Shannon McNeill, decided to keep the family legacy alive. Since January 1, 2024, Shannon and his family have worked tirelessly to rebuild the store and restore its operations.
The grand re-opening served as both a celebration of their hard work and an invitation for the community to witness the store’s transformation. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us,” Shannon said. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by local Chamber members and community leaders, who presented the McNeill family with a commemorative plaque. Family members present for the special day included Shannon and Christa McNeill, their daughters Jaci and Morgan McNeill, Morgan’s boyfriend Lane Collins, son Robby Hicks and his wife Katelynn Hicks, along with their grandchildren Aislynn, Adley, and Aleah. The McNeill family also expressed heartfelt thanks to their hardworking staff and the volunteers who went above and beyond to ensure the day’s success, including Yarah Corbin, Leann Davidson, Lori Leis, Doug, and Gail Davis. “We couldn’t have done it without you,” Shannon emphasized. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere was an incredible live band that kept attendees entertained throughout the day. “This year has been a journey of hard work and dedication,” Shannon shared. “We’re honored to continue serving this community, and we look forward to many more years of being a part of Chipley’s story.” The McNeill family thanks everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to making the grand re-opening a memorable event. Chipley Hardware is open and ready to serve its customers, just as it has since 1984—stronger and better than ever.
