September 18 — Vernon, Florida. Washington County celebrated its 200th anniversary Thursday with a Bicentennial Time Capsule Dedication at Vernon Town Square. Philip Horvath, president of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, opened the ceremony, followed by an opening prayer from Pastor English and remarks from several speakers.
Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and the Tourist Development Council, the event featured photos, literature, and memorabilia from Vernon High School FBLA and the Chamber, all sealed inside a capsule to be opened in 2125. The celebration highlighted the county’s long history and its continued growth as a community.
