MARY LUCILLE CARROLL
Mary Lucille Carroll, 89, of Chipley, passed from this
life on Monday, May 5, in Chipley. Mrs. Carroll was
born on September 18, 1918 to James F. and Kate (Head)
Gardner in Montgomery County, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May
2, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel, (Highway 77) Chipley, with
Rev. Ronnie Wright, Rev. Jeep Sullivan and Rev. Randy
Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at
Campbellton Baptist Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home
directing. The visitation will be from 1 until 2:30
p.m. prior to the service at Brown Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband, Hillary Carroll of
Chipley; four daughters: Bonnie Lou Carroll and husband Bill
Puffer of Statesville, North Carolina, Barbara Carroll Yates
of Dothan, Alabama, Charlotte Carroll and husband Donnie
Shores of Cottondale, and Judy Carroll and husband Joe
Robinson of Boaz, Alabama; two brothers: Hillis Gardner of
Troy, Alabama and Karrell Gardner of Buford, Georgia; one
sister, Imojean Ivey of Graceville; seven grandchildren; 16
great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; four
step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great grandchildren.

WESTON MYRICK, SR.
Weston Myrick, Sr., age 86, passed from this life Sunday,
May 4, at his residence. He was born in Ramer, Alabama
on November 10, 1921 to Waller and Margaret (Turnell)
Myrick. Mr. Myrick worked as a beekeeper for the Cutts
and was of the Protestant faith. He had lived here
since 1945 coming from Montgomery, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Myrick of Chipley; one
son, Mike Myrick and wife Dianne of Chipley; three
daughters: Ann Price and husband Greg of Ocoee, Karen
Stricklen and husband Julius of Vernon, and Gail Cook and
husband John of Vernon; one brother, Hugh Thomas Myrick and
wife Jackie of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May
7, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Dale
Hagan officiating. Interment will follow in the
Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at
the chapel.

CHANCE MORRIS
Chance Morris, 20, of Wausau, passed away on Thursday,
May 1, in Panama City, as a result of an automobile
accident. He was born on September 5, 1987 in Dothan,
Alabama to Randy and Penny Leigh (Smith). He was a
life long resident of Wausau. He was a member of the
Faith Christian Church. He attended school at Chipley
and Arnold High Schools.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother
Gretle Smith and his paternal grandfather Roland Morris.
He is survived by his father, Randy Morris of Chipley;
his mother and her fiancé, Penny Leigh Morris and Don Sowell
of Panama City Beach; his wife, Susan Marie Morris of
Chipley; maternal grandfather, T.D. Smith; paternal
grandmother, Willie Mae Morris of Chipley; one brother, Erik
Nicholas and wife Ginger Lee Morris of Ft. Campbell,
Kentucky; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and one niece,
Kylee Nicole Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in
the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard Road, Chipley,
with Rev. James Barwick officiating. Interment
will follow in the Hard Labor Bradford Bridge Cemetery with
Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive
friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Brown
Funeral Home, Brickyard Road, Chipley. In lieu of

THOMAS RICHARD CARMODY
Thomas Richard Carmody, born August 2, 1933 in Delhi, New
York, died Sunday, April 27, in Chipley. He was the
son of Lilia Nault and John Carmody, and stepson of George
Veen.
He is survived by his wife, Cecile Carmody of Chipley;
children: John Carmody, George (Constance) Carmody, Brian
(Bettie) Carmody, Patricia Carmody Fair, Maureen (Tom)
Hutson, Keith (Lynette) Carmody, Kirk Carmody, Lorna (Cecil)
Emerson, Clover (Joseph) Szmutk, Teresa (Steven) Rogers, and
Joseph (Christina) Carmody; 26 grandchildren; 20 great
grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and siblings
Howard (Grace) Carmody of Phoenix, Arizona and Betty (John)
Truscott of Otego, New York.
Tom was a graduate of Delaware Academy in 1951 where he
as a championship track runner for the state of New York.
He married Cecile Sanson in June 1954. He served in
the 82nd Airborne Division for three years. Tom’s
family lived in New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida where he
farmed, sold Harvestore silos and worked as a carpenter.
The family finally settled in Chipley in 1977 where they
have stayed for the last thirty years.

ROOSEVELT WORKS
Mr. Roosevelt Works, 75, of Caryville, passed away April
25 in the Bonifay Rehab & Nursing Center in Bonifay.
He was a native of Caryville, of the Methodist faith, and a
veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May
3, at the St. Mary A.M.E. Church in Caryville with Rev.
Obadiah White officiating, Rev. Paul Levins, pastor.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Cooper
Funeral Home of Chipley directing.
Survivors include his children: Rosa Marie Works of
Detroit, Michigan, and Clemmie Davis of Caryville; his
sisters and brothers: Dorothy Works of Bonifay, Geraldine
Oates of Palmetto, and Gus Works, Jr. of Caryville; four
grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many other
relatives and friends.
The remains will lie in state at the church one hour
prior to the service.

CECIL ROSCOE DOUGLAS
Cecil Roscoe Douglas was born October 12, 1928 in Wausau.
He passed from this life on April 18 in the Washington
Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chipley. He was a
veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War.
He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.
He was a mechanic by trade, last working at Howell Chevrolet
in Bonifay, before being forced to retire for health
reasons. He and his family resided in Vernon until
1975 when they moved to Wausau, where he lived until his
death.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Billie
Jean Howell Douglas; his parents Lawson and Mallie
(Barfield) Douglas of Vernon; a brother Robert L. Douglas;
two sisters: Julie Faison of Vernon and Jessie Douglas of
Wausau.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and
Earl Riley of Wausau; a grandson, David L. Riley and his
wife Tamara of Wausau; three great grandchildren: Amber
Riley, Katlyn Riley and Breana Moody, all of Wausau; and by
his wife of 14 years, Willie Douglas of Wausau.
At his request, he was laid to rest in a private
graveside service conducted by Rev. T. A. Greene at the Hard
Labor Church Cemetery on Owens Pond Road in Washington
County. Brown Funeral Home of Chipley was in charge of
all arrangements.

JAMES MARSCHKA
James “Jim” Marschka, age 51, of Caryville, passed away
Wednesday, April 23, at his residence. Jim was born
September 20, 1956 to the late Albert and Theresa Marschka.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing,
and camping. He coached recreational baseball and
softball for many years. Jim never missed a football,
wrestling, baseball, softball, or volleyball event in which
his children participated. Jim worked with youth in
his church and touched the lives of many. He was a
powerful role model, strong and full of integrity. He
was an awesome man of God who loved and lived for the Lord
and his family. Jim was a loving, caring,
self-sacrificing husband, father, brother, and friend.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Theresa
Marschka; three sons: James Marschka, Jr. and wife Kristin
of Monicello, Charles Marschka of Bunnell, and Jeremiah
Marschka of Tallahassee; one daughter, Alicia Marschka of
Pensacola; four sisters: Judy Medlin and husband Floyd of
Lake Panasoffkee, Louise Batten of Waynesville, Georgia,
Linda Messina and husband Tony of Port Orange, and Janice
Jaap and husband Bill of Southwest Ranches; three brothers:
Ronnie Marschka and wife Nancy of Vernon, John Marschka and
wife Clarisse of Lynn Haven, and Jerry Marschka and wife
MaryLou of Plantation; father- and mother-in-law, Charlie
and Margaret McGinnis of Caryville; two sisters-in-law:
Robin Silberman of Jensen Beach, and Kelly Galloway and
husband Stann of Vernon; one brother-in-law, Sean McGinnis
and wife Lynn of Tallahassee; one grandson, Garrett
Marschka; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Jim’s life was held Friday, April 25, at
the Calvary Hill Pentecostal Church in Vernon at 3 p.m.

STEADMAN CARROLL
Steadman Carroll, age 71, of Cottondale, passed from this
life on April 26 at his home. He was born in
Washington County to William H. and Lillie Mae Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was retired from DOT with 30 years of service as
a right-of-way engineer and was a real estate broker for the
past 20 years. He was Assembly of God by faith and a
member of Grace Assembly of God. He was a Mason and a
member of Orion Masonic Lodge in Chipley, and a life long
resident of Washington County.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, at 10
a.m. at Brown Funeral Home Brickyard Road Chapel with Rev.
Dallas Pettis and Rev. T. A. Greene officiating.
Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery. Family will
receive friends Monday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the
chapel. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Calvin Sapp,
Raymond Pippin, Julian McCrary, Jimmy Napier, Ira Carter,
Albert Everett.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Carroll of

K'hmorah S'rah Clayton, age 3, of Chipley, daughter of
Kijuana Hooks Sharpe, passed away at the Sacred Heart
Hospital in Pensacola. She was of the Baptist faith.

26, at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Chipley with Rev. Price
Wilson, Rev. Cleve Wedderburn, Rev. Larry Brown and Rev. L.

HOLLIS LANE
Hollis Lane, of Graceville, went home to be with the Lord
on Thursday morning, April 24, at the age of 81.
Mr. Lane was born in Holmes County (Poplar Springs
Community) on September 12, 1926. At the age of 18,
Mr. Lane was drafted into the U. S. Army serving in World
War II. Upon his return, he met the love of his life,
Vivian Jeanette Kirkland and they married on July 18, 1947.
Mr. Lane was a farmer as well as a school bus driver in the
Poplar Springs community for 33 years. He was a member
of Bethel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivian,
parents William Grace and Jessie Mae White Lane, and one
brother Grace Lane.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Allan and
Beth of Toccoa, Georgia; two daughters and sons-in-law:
Brenda and Benny Bell of Graceville and Vicki and Rick
Meredith of Dothan, Alabama; sister, Katherine Kelly of
Panama City; seven grandchildren: Raley Lane and wife Becky,
Russ Lane and wife Mary, Holly Thomason and husband Matt all
of Toccoa, Bryan Bell and wife Angie, Ben Bell and wife Amy
all of Graceville, Lance Meredith and Mark Meredith of
Dothan; five great grandchildren: Hayden Lane of Toccoa,

KENNETH MAX GARNER
Kenneth Max "Kenny" Garner, 55, of Graceville, passed
away Friday, April 18, at Northwest Florida Community
Hospital following a brief illness.
Kenny was born in Graceville on January 31, 1953 to the
late Franklin and Tiny Sasser Garner. He was a 1971
graduate of Graceville High School.
He is survived by his children: Kristopher Michael Garner
of Opelika and Matthew Garner, Justin Garner and Kelli
McArdle, all of Dothan, Alabama; three brothers: Frank
Durell Garner and wife Linda, Billy Joe Garner and wife
Agnes, all of Cottonwood, and Mickey Garner of Madrid; three
sisters: Mary Smith and husband Alva of Madrid, Susie
Calloway and husband James of Graceville, and Shirley Brown
