CRAA DONATES $6,500 TO CHIPOLA COLLEGE
MARIANNA—The Chipola Regional Arts Association (CRAA) recently donated $6,500 to Chipola College for the Chipola Artist Series and for Children’s Programming in the public schools.
Since its inception, the CRAA has donated over $120,000 to support the Chipola Artist Series. Continuing this tradition, the CRAA contributed $4,500 to support programming that features professional touring groups. Dr. Daniel Powell, Director of Fine and Performing Arts, says, “Without their support, this popular series would not exist.”
The CRAA also has sponsored children’s programming since the late 80’s that has allowed more than 20,000 children to experience special performances. Powell said, “For most of these children, this is their first exposure to such art programming.” This year, the CRAA has contributed $2,000 toward such initiatives. Flutist and performer Donna Wissinger has been contracted to give touring productions throughout the Chipola District.
To continue these programs, CRAA relies on donors in the community to participate in the ‘Partner in the Arts’ fundraising campaign.
All of those wishing to donate to any of these initiatives are invited to contact Dr. Powell, Executive Director of CRAA, at powelld@chipola.edu or (850) 718-2257.

CIVIL WAR MINSTREL TO PERFORM AT CHIPOLA
MARIANNA—The next event in the Chipola Artist Series “Songs and Stories of the Civil War” is set for Monday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. in the Chipola College Theater.
Authentically dressed reenactors from Marianna Day’s Battle of Marianna will greet patrons as they enter the theater.
Professional musician Bobby Horton will transport the audience back in time to the most turbulent era in our nation’s history. Dressed as a 19th century performer, using period musical instruments, Horton explores the stories of both the North and South through the music they loved with each song placed in historical context. Each song is placed in historical context and portrays the struggles, hopes, and fears of Americans during this long and bloody conflict.
These song and stories tell of sweethearts and families left behind, fallen comrades, the hope of going home, and the pride, bravery, and patriotism of the volunteers who answered their country’s call. Audiences will enjoy an evening of great music, inspired storytelling, and unforgettable entertainment.
Horton has produced and performed musical scores for eight Ken Burns PBS films, including “The Civil War’ and “Baseball.”
Tickets—$12 for adults, $8 for ages 18 and under and $4 for Chipola students—go on sale Jan. 17 in the college Business Office.
