Commissioners to Hold Public Hearing on Toll Road - The Board of County Commissioners of Washington County will hold a public hearing May 15 on a transportation project proposed by the group Focus 2000.

NHS Car Wash - The National Honor Society at Chipley High School will be holding a car wash on Thursday, May 1.

Students Attend Shakespeare Festival - Students from Roulhac Middle School, Chipley High School and Vernon High School recently attended a performance at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. 

Account Set Up for Family of Home Destroyed by Fire - The home of Willie James and Linda Sheffield, located at 3236 Gainer Road, was destroyed by fire on April 24.

BCF Students Selected as Finalists for Preaching Award - Two students at the Baptist College of Florida were recently selected as finalists in the Presidential Excellence in Preaching Award.   

Miss Vernon Pageant - The Miss Vernon 2008 pageant will be held Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at the Vernon Community Center.

BCF Announces Commencement Exercises - The Baptist College of Florida will hold commencement exercises for 64 seniors on May 16. 

Sea Cadets Attend Riverblast - Sea Cadets from the Wiregrass area recently attended Riverblast at the National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus, Georgia.

Traylor Preaches in Chapel at the Baptist College of Florida - According to Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Christians are all called to be Kingdom Seekers.

BCF Voice Professor to Teach in Italy - Dr. Kimberle Moon, professor of voice at the Baptist College of Florida, will be touring Italy this summer with IdeaNove, an organization dedicated to introducing Italian singers to American musical theater and providing vocal coaching from highly trained professionals.

Most Wanted - The Washington County Sheriff's Office has updated their 10 Most Wanted poster. 

Worm Fiddlin' Queens - Christi Lynn Pitts was crowned Miss Worm Fiddlin' 2008 and Jasmine Trinity Clayton was crowned Little Miss Worm Fiddlin' 2008 at the Civic Center in Caryville Saturday.

CPD Reports More Drug Arrests - The Chipley Police Department continues to wage war on pharmaceutical abuse and trafficking, and reports two more arrests over the weekend. 

WCHD Announces New Staff Members - The Washington County Health Department is pleased to introduce new staff members to the community.

National Day of Prayer - The Chipley Ministerial Association will sponsor an observance of National Day of Prayer on May 1 on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse. 

Arts & Crafts Classes - If you are interested in learning acrylic painting or how to do craft projects, the Washington County Council on Aging is offering projects you can do within two hours from start to finish. 

Caregiver Conference - The Bay County Council on Aging will host the 2008 Caregiver Conference on May 23. 

Blue/Orange Spring Scrimmage - The Vernon High School Quarterback and Athletic Booster Club will hold its annual membership drive in conjunction with the Blue and Orange Spring Scrimmage Game at Memorial Field in Vernon on May 10.  

VES Spelling Bee - The Vernon Elementary School second grade spelling bee was held April 23.

Chipley Girls Win Regional Semi-finals - Chipley's Lady Tigers traveled to Santa Rosa Friday night where they defeated the South Walton Lady Seahawks 3-0 in the 3A Regional Semifinals.

Bronson Lauds Multifaceted Federal Food Safety Bill - Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson is praising a bill that will tackle numerous weaknesses in federal food safety programs.

Topsy-Turvy Day at CHS - Students took over at Chipley High School Wednesday during Topsy-Turvy Day when the roles were reversed.

Arrest Made in Connection With Sunny Hills Burglary - An officer with the Mississippi State Highway Patrol contacted investigators with the Washington County Sheriff's Office on April 21 in reference to a vehicle they had stopped that was reported stolen out of Washington County.

Wildlife Walk at Falling Waters - The Washington County Historical Society sponsored a Wildflower Walk at Falling Waters State Park.  

2nd Annual Joe Martin Paper Drive - The Panhandle Shrine Club will be out on the streets Saturday, April 26, for their 2nd Annual Joe Martin Paper Drive.

Washington County Holds Training Workshop - The Washington County Emergency Management Office provided a school safety workshop Tuesday at the Blue Lake Park facility.

FCA Scholarships Awarded to Local Students - Chipley High School students Ben Grande and Aven Pitts were among those receiving $1,000 scholarships from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tuesday night.

Tigers Win First Round of District Tourney - The Chipley Tigers traveled to Marianna Tuesday to face the Holmes County Blue Devils in the first round of the District 2 Class 3A baseball tournament, and came away with a hard-fought 5-4 win.

Relay for Life - The American Cancer Society's 2008 Washington County Relay for Life was held Friday and Saturday at the old Chipley High School track. 

The Storyteller - Ted Esquivel, a storyteller from California, shared familiar children's stories with students at Kate Smith Elementary School Friday.

Celebrate Smart During Prom and Graduation - The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles wants to encourage students and parents to develop a driving plan that will keep our teens safe while taking part in prom and graduation events.   

Art Institute Rep Visits VHS - Ty Wade, a representative of the Art Institute, visited Latina White's government and economics classes at Vernon High School on Wednesday.

Car Wash Raises Money for Relay - The Administrative Assistant Program at Washington-Holmes Technical Center raised $373 for the school's Relay for Life Team for the American Cancer Society during a one-day car wash. 

Friends of the Library - The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be held Thursday, May 1, at 12 noon at the Blue Lake Community Center.

Sacred Heart Adds Clinic in Chipley - Sacred Heart Women’s Hospital is extending its expertise in managing high risk pregnancies into the Florida Panhandle and South Alabama by opening a satellite office in Chipley.

Chipley vs Vernon Softball - Chipley's Lady Tigers traveled to Vernon Thursday night for their final regular season contest.

Water Label Contest Winners - Sandy Wiggins' first grade class at Kate Smith Elementary School was the winner for March in the Nestle PureLife Water Label Contest. 

Anderson Named Employee of Quarter - Norman Anderson, an employee in the Public Works Department for the City of Chipley, was recognized and presented with an award for "Employee of the Quarter" when the Chipley City Council met Thursday night.

Chipola College News - Chipola College math and science education students and faculty presented an abstract at the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Florida Academy of Sciences at Jacksonville University in March.

Century Pioneer Family Farm Designation - Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson has announced that five Florida properties -- including one owned by Jim Tiller in Washington County -- have qualified for recognition as Century Pioneer Family Farms.

Agriculture Literacy Day - In an effort to increase agricultural literacy statewide, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson today hosted a press conference to kick off the fifth anniversary of the event. 

Parole Commission Denies Relief in Chipley Murder - State Attorney Steve Meadows announces that the Florida Parole Commission denied relief in the case of Judith Loren.

Georgia and Florida Ending Senior Citizen License Exemption - An agreement between Florida and Georgia that allows senior citizens from either state to hunt and fish in fresh water without licenses in both states is about to end.
