Band Awards - An awards banquet was held for members of
Chipley High School's Spirit of the Tiger Band last week.
Tropicana Speech Competition - Public speaking, the number
one fear of most adults, was conquered last week as 25 brave
fourth, fifth and sixth grade students competed in the 2008
Washington County 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Competition.
Florida Folk Festival Features Cattle Ranching Traditions -
Cowboy poetry, saddle making, cow whip plaiting, roping,
branding, saddle bronc riding, country music and swamp cabbage
are among the Florida cattle ranching traditions that will be
featured at the Folklife Area of the Florida Folk Festival in
White Springs.

District Events - Four Washington County 4-H'ers have
qualified to compete at State 4-H Congress in July.
Donations
for TSIC - Local businesses, as well as individuals,
recently made generous contributions to the Take Stock in
Children program.
Dedication Ceremony for Scenic 30-A - Nine years after
beginning the designation process, Walton County's Scenic 30-A
corridor has officially earned designation as a Florida Scenic
Highway.
Health Screenings
at WCCOA - Osteoporosis screening by the "Missions in
Motion" van from Pensacola Sacred Heart Hospital will be coming
to the Washington County Council on Aging on May 21.
Chipola Wins
State Baseball Championship - The Chipola Indians
successfully defended their Florida state baseball title with a
6-0 win over Manatee CC in the championship game of the FCCAA
State Baseball Tournament, Tuesday, May 13, at Chain of Lakes
Park in Winter Haven.

Wanted Captured - The Washington County Sheriff's Office
reports the capture of Christopher Cruz Walley, posted on the
county's most recent "Ten Most Wanted" list.

Power Against Fraud - The Washington County Sheriff's Office
and Sheriff Bobby Haddock will present "The Power Against
Fraud."
Art
Exhibit Opening at Jackson Hospital - As part of the
activities commemorating Hospital Week, May 11-16, Jackson
Hospital will officially open its Art in Public Places Gallery
on Thursday, May 15.
VES Waiting on Storm Water Permit - Joe Taylor, facilities
director, reported to the Washington County School Board Monday
night that a storm water permit from the Department of
Environmental Protection is still needed before construction of
new classrooms at Vernon Elementary School can begin.
