I'm impressed with your web page. I have a sentimental
interest in Chipley, as my grandfather moved his family from
Chipley to Fort Myers in 1924. He was a physician named

I use to go to vernon school. I remember a game on the
Computers In V.E.S but the problem is i dont remember the
name. "started out on a beach and had to collect various
items to put in the black crock pot like thing. The game had

Very nice, informative site !! I would like to hear from
Sassers from the Chipley area. My favorite aunt was born in
Chipley in 1899 and I would love to know more about the
Sasser family. Her name was Leafy Sasser; her parents were
John William Sasser and Angelena Johnson. I'm pretty sure

Greetings All, We really do enjoy looking at and reading
your site. My wife the former Iris Linton graduated from
Chipley in 1972 and I worked with DOT there in Chipley from
1970 - 1985. When Iris and I first married, we lived off of
Highway 77, just south of Blue Lake on my In-laws farm,
Thomas & Jean Linton. We attended Church at First Assembly
of God there in Chipley. We later moved to Cottondale, and
from there to Crawfordville, in Wakulla County. We love and
miss the people from the surrounding area there. We love
keeping up with what is going on over in the Washington
County area. When you get grown, get gone, have childern
then grand children, it is hard to get back as often as you
would like. Looking at your site is a great help. Thanks and

I grew up in Vernon. The Chipley Bugle is a good source
of the news in Washington County. The pictures of Homes
Creek remind me of my boyhood days. Pictures From The Past

Very good source of information on Chipley, Washington
County and surrounding areas. My particular interests in the
area are in researching my ancestral lineage; perhaps if
there is enough interest in surname research, a few links to

I attended 8th grade and 2 years of high school with the
class of '60 at Chipley High School. Chipley still seems
like home to me and is dear to my heart. My dad, Orden Rice,
was pastor of First Baptist Church in Chipley from '55-'58.
I keep up with FBC on their website every time they update
it. My parents live near us in FL and KY. I keep them
informed about the church we all love so much in Chipley. I
read the Bugle often and recognize many names from time to
time. It's so nice to be able to "visit" Chipley; my adopted
"hometown"; online so often. We have 3 children; 2 daughters
and one son. Our oldest daughter, Andrea, worked as a
Nutrition Specialist on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in
MT, but is now a homemaker in WI. She and her husband have 5
children. Our youngest child; daughter Lydia; has a BSN
Degree in Nursing and works at a Hyatt Regency Assisted
Living and Nursing Home at Hilton Head Island, SC. She and
her husband have one son. Our son, Orden, finished Nuclear
Power School with the Navy and works aboard a Nuclear
Submarine. The Navy is his career. He and his wife have 4
children. We have 10 grandchildren; 2 granddaughters and 8
grandsons. I am a retired elementary school teacher and my
husband, Donald, is a retired math and physics college
professor. We spend summers in KY and winters in FL. I hope
to hear from some of my friends there. You do a great job
with the Bugle. I appreciate the Guest Book; is a nice
service to the public. Keep up the good work!

in 1975. Retiring after a 20 year naval career, I now work

because I dont get to know everything anymore since i am
back in Austria but with your site I wont miss any news what
is happening in my old hometown! Especially about my old

I attended Roulhac Middle School back in 1984. Some might
remember my father as owner of Mark's IGA on Jackson Ave. I

I was very sad to hear about the pasting of Sam Mitchell,
age 74 (Aug 02,1929 - Nov 15, 2003) one of great icons of
Washington County, Florida history Like the song "Big John",
Sam was a big, big man in so many ways. Physically, Sam was
a very large man but he was also bigger than life itself in
the ways that he touched so many lives thru out his life.

The website is still being very well kept up too high
standards and keeps the community aware of most everything
that happens with such great detailed pictures. I think it
is wonderful to not have to run out and buy a paper when you
can sit inside and read up on the gossip and news in the
warmth of your own home at a touch of a button. There are a
few things in Chipley I am not so proud of, and one thing is
one of the things is the the way the CPD is handling
situations in our small town. It seems that the small things
are big things to them and the big things to us are small to
them. I truly hope in 2004 the community can pull together
and get a lot of situations resolved and settled. This town
should not be "who knows who" to get things done...we are
small enough that we all should be able to work and resolve
matters together.
