Every year there are children in our own community, who go to our own schools, who go hungry over Christmas break. So, this year as a solution to this issue the Roulhac Middle School Student Council and the Chipley High School JROTC teamed up to provide nonperishable food to hungry children in need. The RMS student body was fantastic collecting food everyday in their homeroom and also at The Annual Winter Ball. In total the students at RMS brought in over 700 cans. The CHS students did amazing as well collecting around 900 cans. After all the hard work there was a total of 1,362 items of nonperishable food in a total of 60 bags. Each student in need got 3 bags. There was a lot of work put into this food drive but it was all worth it to see so many happy faces in parents and students alike.
This article is titled “Students Helping Students” because the students at both schools were so excited to get out there and buy cans. These students didn’t just empty out their pantry of food items they didn’t like, they went out to the store and bought items they, as kids, actually like. The food drive was a great way to give back to the students in need in our own community.
Thank you to the CHS Basketball team and Drama Department for contributing to the drive as well. Congratulations to Mrs. Drayoom’s homeroom for collecting the most items.
Anyone interested in helping with this effort will have opportunity to participate during spring break, please contact CHS JROTC for details.
