The Faculty of The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville are not only known for their personable demeanor and the investments they make in the lives of students, but also their many contributions to academia, especially in the form of published works. Professors frequently author textbooks, publish book reviews, and are highly sought after contributors for journals and periodicals. This semester, BCF Assistant Professor of Psychology and Counseling Kristy Ford authored “Adapting Mindfulness for Conservative Christians” with co-author, Fernando Garzon. The work was published in the “Journal of Psychology and Christianity,” Fall 2016, Volume 35, Number 3.
Ford’s article is a practice oriented article that gives advice for clinicians who are working with clients from a Christian worldview. It gives suggestions for the application of mindfulness techniques to incorporate Christian concepts such as prayer and scripture. “This article grew out of practical experience that my chair (Dr. Garzon) and I gained while I was completing the research for my dissertation on mindfulness,” Ford stated. “I am very excited to have it published!”
