Jessie Edward Mills, Jr., age 88, of Bonifay, Florida passed away December 4, 2016 at his home. He was born December 19, 1928 in Holmes County Florida to the late Jessie Edward Mills, Sr. and Ada R. Douglass Mills. In addition to his parents, Jesie was preceded in death by two brothers, Lorine Mills and Lonnie Mills; two sisters, Lula Miller and Mildred Sellers.
He was raised on a farm with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. They lived on the west of Wrights Creek, four miles south of Esto on a Cherokee and Creek territory. Serving two enlistments as a heavy weapons infantry man, he was injured in service in the Korean War. Jessie was wounded and awarded the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, Combat Badge and Purple Heart. His love for the Lord and his word began during the Korean War.
Jessie met Geraldine December 7, 1951 and they married December 30, 1951. They were blessed with four children. A heart attack forced Jessie to retire in 1970. At this time he decided to go back to college. He earned a degree in religious education and continued on to a master and doctorate degree. We were honored with many years of his dedication to his Lord and family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Geraldine Mills of Bonifay, FL; four children, Debbie Gibbs and husband Richard of Bonifay, FL, Bobbie Gibson of Daphne, AL, Robbie Brown and husband Lynn of Chipley, FL; Eddy Mills and wife Melinda of Titus, AL; nine grandchildren, Chris Outler, Sharon Bearden, Shannon Outler, Amber Gibson, Stacey Balkcom, Charles Brown, Melissa Kathman, Xandrea Gallucci, Adam Mills; 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Jerry Newman, Ed Stevens and Daniel Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonifay Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Peel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
