Chipola students visit Torreya

science-field-tripChipola College students in classes of Environmental Science, recently hiked a 3 mile segment of the 16 miles of Torreya Park Trails with professors: Hilton and Cuccio.  The purpose was to deepen classroom studies on ecosystems, ecosystem services, conservation, biodiversity, endangered species, hotspots, and Florida flora and fauna.  The students visited the rare Torreya and Yew understory trees which are endemic to the Slope forest. Torreya trees are found also in the Florida Caverns State Park and are severely endangered.
