Gainer appointed chairman of Senate Transportation Committee

PANAMA CITY, FLA – State Senator George Gainer (R-Panama City) has been appointed by Senate President Joe Negron to chair the Transportation Committee, which oversees substantive policy for all modes of transportation in Florida. In addition, Gainer was appointed vice chair of the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee.

“Both transportation and tourism are vital to the overall economy of Northwest Florida and I’m grateful to President Negron for placing me in a position of leadership on these two major policy committees,” said Senator Gainer. “It’s rare for a freshman legislator to chair a Senate committee, but I am fully prepared for the challenge and appreciate the opportunity to help set policies that will further grow our state’s economy.”

Senator Gainer has also been appointed to:

• Appropriations Committee, which develops the state’s budget,

• Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development

• Banking and Insurance

• Joint Administrative Procedures Committee.

Senator Gainer was sworn into office last week during the Organization Session of the Florida Legislature. Committee meetings in preparation for the 2017 legislative session start in December.
