On Thursday, November 3, the Music and Worship Division of The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville hosted a one-day-only Honors Band Invitational for local high school juniors and seniors. The invitational included honor band students from Graceville High School, Chipley High School, Holmes County High School, Walton High School, Bozeman High School (Panama City, Florida), Northside Methodist Academy (Dothan, Alabama), and Cottondale High School. Students were selected based on nominations received from their Band Directors as evidence of outstanding musicianship and leadership in their school band programs.
Throughout the day, honor students combined with the BCF College Winds endured intense rehearsals followed by a live performance held in the R.G. Lee Chapel immediately following lunch. ” We wanted to recognize the best and most talented musicians within our local high schools,” stated BCF Associate Professor of Music and Orchestra Director Ron Branning. “This was an opportunity for them to play music that would be a challenge for them musically, while at the same time give us an opportunity to show them what we perform here at The Baptist College of Florida. It was a pleasure to work with these gifted young musicians. I feel like this was a great learning experience as well as a lot of fun for us all.”
