The November monthly meeting of Chipley Garden Club was held Wednesday, November 2nd at Oakie Ridge Baptist Church.  Under the direction of 1st Vice President Ri McGlamery, club members discussed October activities such as distributing plants to KMS students and a field trip to Dothan Area Botanical Gardens. Scarecrow Fest Chair Gweneth Collins reported we had 17 entries in our 5th Scarecrow Building Contest and Washington County Historical Society’s Crafter Fair drew lots of new folks.

The club will be busy in November and December participating in several projects. Youth Chair Linda Pigott has scheduled terrarium building with children at KMS Elementary School. Other projects include assisting The Salvation Army as bell ringers, decorating for the Farm City Breakfast, donating peanut butter for our local food pantry, participating in the Chipley Christmas Festival, and collecting comfort items for the Chester Sims VA Hospital for Christmas.

Wildflower Chair Glenda Wilson presented Firebush aka Hamelia patens, a native wildflower with bright red tubular flowers that the butterflies and hummingbirds love. The plant is shade tolerant and grows well in our area.

Chipley Garden Club welcomes new members at any time during the year.  If you would like more information about the club, please contact President Debbie Mitchell at 638-0536.
