Velma Bernice Peacock

Velma Bernice Peacock, age 96 of Chipley, went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2016 at Washington Rehab and Nursing Center.

Mrs. Velma was born on September 22, 1920 in Bethlehem, Florida to Jonce A. Forehand and Sarah M. Bryan. A lifelong resident of the panhandle, she was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida. She was one of two living Confederate Daughters of the UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy) in Florida, and was the 3rd oldest of 10 Real Daughters of the Confederacy. She first joined the William Henry Milton Chapter 1039 of Marianna before transferring to the Minecraft Ocheesee Chapter 2693 in Blountstown, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Burl J. Peacock; parents: Jonce A. and Sarah M. (Bryan) Forehand; son: Phillip Nolan Barbee; multiple siblings: Perry Lee Forehand Smith, Edith Ann Forehand Pitts, Benjamin Horace Forehand, Henry Lewis Forehand, William Jesse Forehand, James Robert Forehand, Dennis Jonah Forehand, Annie Forehand Williams, Benjamin Horace Forehand, Jonce A Forehand Jr., Lee Forehand, Lettie Owens Bradley, Thelma J Owens, F. E. Owens, Jessie B Owens, Myrtie  Owens Thompson, Louada Owens Brown.

She is survived by her two grandchildren: Jeff Barbee and wife Tracy of Chipley, Florida, Sheila Barbee of Niceville, Florida; great grandchildren: Trey Barbee, Tayler Barbee, Charlie McAdams and wife Danielle; great great grandchildren: Ava McAdams, Peney McAdams, and Shelby McAdams.

Mrs. Peacock’s funeral service will be held 10A.M. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bethlehem, Florida with Rev. Kermit Soileau and Rev. Jackie Faircloth officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8P.M. Friday, October 28, 2016 at Obert Funeral Home in Chipley, Florida.
