Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.7 percent for September 2016, unchanged from the August 2016 rate, but down 0.4 percentage point from 5.1 percent a year ago. There were 457,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 9,753,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in September. Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was ,428,000 in September 2016, an increase of 23,000 jobs over the month. The state gained 276,300 jobs over the year, an increase of 3.4 percent.
The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Chipola region (Calhoun,Holmes,Jackson,Liberty,Washington) was 5.4 percent in September 2016. The rate was 0.2 percentage point lower that the region’s year ago rate of 5.6 percent. Out of a labor force of 41,483 there were 2,227 unemployed residents in the region.
