Following a lengthy illness, Trooper (Ret) Philip Lang Waller peacefully passed from this life on September 23, 2016, at Covenant Hospice at Bay Medical Center, Panama City.
He was born on May 29, 1939 in Washington County, Florida, to Emil V. and Alice Waller. He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Emil Wayne Waller, and James Winston Waller, and one sister, Lila Waller Shores.
He is survived by wife, Barbara Waller of Eagle Lake; one daughter, Rita Michele Edwards of Washington County; sisters, Lynda Waller of Enterprise, Alabama, and Janice Hurley of Ponce de Leon; three grandchildren, Alice Hathaway, Heidi Edwards, and Philip Keith Edwards; and friend and caretaker, Rita Riley Waller of Vernon.
During high school and after graduating in 1957, Phil worked at McFatter’s Grocery Store and Bowen Hardware. After serving honorably in the U.S. Air Force, he spent several years in Chicago, Illinois, before returning to Florida to work at Vitro Corporation and to serve as a Florida State Trooper for 26 years in Escambia, Washington, and Broward Counties. Upon retirement, he resided in Eagle Lake, before returning to Washington County. He was an avid Seminoles fan, loved NASCAR and appreciated classic television shows.
Memorialization will be by cremation with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay in charge of arrangements. His life will be celebrated on October 8 at Hard Labor Creek Church and Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
