Dixie Boys Baseball recently awarded a bid to Chipley for the 2018 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series. The World Series event will be held July 28 – August 1, 2018.
Chipley was the unanimous selection to serve as host for the 2018 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series. The bid was accepted at a 2016 directors meeting held in Guntersville, Alabama. Andy Compton, Chipley High School Head Baseball Coach presented an impressive bid on behalf of the host. Mr. J. Sandy Jones, Commissioner/CEO stated: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Chipley for another tournament. The community was actively involved with the successful 2014 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series and the hospitality shown was second to none. The award winning event was truly outstanding. I have no doubt that the people of Chipley, Florida and Washington County will strive to surpass the success of the previous series. The two playing fields and the support facilities located at Chipley High School are exceptional.”
The Washington County Tourist Development Council has partnered with the host city of Chipley to provide needed support for the event. In 2015, the TDC received national recognition as a recipient of a Sports Destination Management award as “Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism”. It is anticipated that persons traveling and requiring an overnight stay will easily fill all motel rooms in Washington County, Florida. Figures from previous years suggest that nearly 2,000 in paid attendance will be realized at the playing facilities. Eleven state champions along with the host Chipley team will compete in the tournament. The twelve teams comprised of participants age 15-17 will vie for the World Series championship. Motel rooms for the visiting teams and visiting Dixie Officials will also help create in excess of 500 total room nights.
Located in the heart of the Florida Panhandle, Washington County encompasses 580 square miles including the communities of Chipley and Vernon, Ebro, Wausau, Caryville, New Hope, Sunny Hills, Five Points, Greenhead, Redhead, and Hinson’s Crossroads.
