Second grade teacher Kelly Kunde was selected as Kate Smith Elementary School’s 2017 Teacher of the Year, and went on to be named Washington County 2017 Teacher of the Year.
As Washington County’s Teacher of the Year, Kunde was given the opportunity to attend a week-long event in Orlando, honoring the Florida Teachers of the Year. The week ended in a Gala hosted by the Florida Department of Education and Macy’s. This was a red carpet affair where teachers were treated to a meal at Hard Rock Café Live and individually recognized.
Kunde was also selected by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for the Smart/Maher Citizenship Education Teacher Award for Washington County and the Washington County School District. This award recognizes teachers for their outstanding commitment to teach Americanism and patriotism to their students.
Most recently, Kunde was selected by Governor Rick Scott to receive the Governor’s Shine Award. She was invited to attend a Cabinet meeting where she received the award, which is presented to teachers who make significant contributions to the field of education.
