MARIANNA –Chipola College graduate Chelsea Kuhajda of Marianna was one of the first two $1,000 scholarship recipients of the First Commerce Credit Union MyWay Scholarship. Kelly Kolman of Tallahassee also was selected.

Five independent judges from area colleges—FSU, FAMU, TCC, Chipola, and Thomas University—selected the winners.

Kuhajda recently completed her sophomore year at Chipola and will be attending Troy University this fall to study business.

Kuhajda met with First Commerce Associate Amy Proctor two years ago to discuss how best to build her credit as a young college student. She qualified for a VISA card and for the past 21 months, has consistently made one small purchase every month and paid it in full.

Chuck Hudson, First Commerce Jackson County Executive, says, “Young people like Chelsea are getting a great start in understanding the importance of making smart financial choices.”

The next scholarship cycle, which is exclusively for MyWay members, has a deadline of Sept. 30.
